As a Thai, I believe you are a kind of nice people too, no wonder why you'd got all the good things and treatment in return. Please come back again, we love nice people like you.
Anyway, on behalf of the Thai, we do appreciate your note and glad to know that the local people had made you feel at home why staying here in Thailand.

I enjoyed Thailand tremendously too! I lived there for two years where I worked as a Math and English teacher. The people are very generous and kind. The one's that want to take advantage of you are obvious.
It is a livable place. The most common annoyance foreigners have with living here is miscommunication with locals. Never take anything too seriously and go with the flow is my best advice I can give. The best way to handle a situation is 'sabi sabi' or take it easy. If you remain calm things will work out.
If you are pleasant, outgoing, and respectful of others you will not have any problems with people. If you are the opposite: watch out! You will have problems, guaranteed.
In all my time there I have not had any major issues with locals.
I want to add, in terms of safety I believe it is uncertain these days. With the Coup and the insurgency down South the country is a bit unstable but safe for the most part despite the recent bombings that occurred in Bangkok(new year's eve) and Hat Yai -last September (where I was slightly injured). So pay attention to the Bangkokpost newspaper: http://www.bangkokpost.com as well as CNN/BBC if you plan to go soon.

I spent three weeks in Thailand: Bangkok, Chiang Mai and Pattaya in 2001. It was the best vacation I have ever had. My husband and I fell in love with Chiang Mai and would love to go back and visit again. Thai people are extremely friendly and pollite no matter where we went. If I could find a job there, I would pack in a second.

Thanks, I'm Thai. Be sure of one thing. I've been travelling quite a lot too. The interactions with the local people are always two ways; that is you have to first be a very nice person to bring out the nice things from the local people, which I'm pretty sure you are to have encountered such a treat from Thailand.

That is the point I want to bring to visitors to Thailand. Thai people are very hospitable and will bend over backward for strangers. Just do not assume that they are easy to take advantage of. Treat them nice in return.

I agree with Peterthai, two or three weeks in the Thai sun is great, two or three years, or worse two or three decades here can be just a little trying on times.
