Braces fit on the outside of the teeth and have absolutely nothing to do with either getting a lisp or keeping one. An overbite doesn't cause lisps, either; tongue placement in relation to the teeth causes a lisp.
If you have trouble saying "vegetable", there is more than a simple lisp happening.
Yes, you can get speech therapy at school if the evaluation shows your problem to be serious enough. Sometimes there are kids who have severe problems who would take precidence over you, though. Another idea is to investigate whether your medical insurance will cover speech therapy at an outpatient clinic. Barring that, you should be able to see a therapist privately for about $60 to $75 per hour. I found that teenagers are able to change their speech quite rapidly; the last 16 year-old I worked with who had a simple frontal lisp was able to habituate her new "s" in conversation after 5 sessions, but she worked really hard at it.

No braces wont get rid of it. What you need is a SPEECH therapist. Ask your parents to ask the school to give you appointments with a speech therapist if you have a lisp. I saw a speech therapist when I was a kid at my PUBLIC elementary school.
My parents did not pay any money to have me meet with the speech therapist. I had a slight lisp so I couldnt say "S" words, etc well at all.
The meetings with the speech therapist were fun and I was sad when I was told I no longer need to see her. The meetings were sometimes one on one but many times several speech lisp kids (like 3-4) would sit around playing games that involved words. And the speech teacher would make us pronounce words as we played. I was so happy whenever i had to leave class to go see her. No one was embarrassed or ashmed to see the speech therapist because it was fun time, even though she was teaching us how to speak properly.
So have your parents insist on a speech therapist if you really do have a noticable speech problem. Dont be embarrassed just get it dealt with now.

Its a possibility. I had a friend who had braces and developed a lisp, but after she got got them off, she was fine. I would also recommend that you see your physician to get a referral to a speech therapist. I wish you the best.

I am not really sure but I really do not think that it will go away if you get braces. I have heard that if you read out loud everyday then eventually it will go away. You should give it a try.
