There are few things more exciting than getting a proposal with a ring - especially a ring that suits your taste!!
Look at the jewelry she wears for hints ( white or yellow gold, simple or complicated and intricate, traditional or modern). You can also ask her mother or best friend if she has mentioned any preferences. If all else fails and you want it to be a complete surprise, buy a traditional diamond solitaire, keep the receipt ( check the store's return policy first) and go for it. You can always say "If you don't love this ring, we can return it and pick something else or buy a fancy ring guard to dress it up for a fancier look)
If she loves you, she'll love it if you need a microscope to see it!!
Good luck

I wanted my ring to be a surprise- your fiance should know you well enough to tell what kind fits you. It's gift of love and should represent that and represent how your fiance views you/your style. Although it's not a bad idea to give him hints for for him to find out what style you like if he's not completely sure.
It does depend on the girl though some may wish to choose theirs- they will be wearing it for the rest of their life.
A nice idea would be proposing with a mandmade ring (think silver wire and pretty polished stones from a craft store) it'll be a keepsake to remember, then you guys can find the 'real thing' together.
My fiance was such a sweety... he had his recently married sister pretend to lose her ring. since i was one of her bridesmaids I went along to support her and help find a 'replacement'. I finally realized what was up when she kept asking my advice on which rings i liked. She told him what i liked and he got something he liked and i liked. It was perfect! What a guy :)

Pick out the ring yourself, it's so much more personal! If she hates it, it is always returnable and what's a proposal without a ring? An empty promise, if you ask me. The ring my dad bought my mom was pink gold (ugh!) she exchanged it when he was on a business trip.

wonder each and each and every of how. that is between the most interesting issues about it for my area. i have not in any respect been engaged, yet i do not prefer to bypass ring figuring out to purchase because even besides the undeniable fact that i don't understand at the same time as it is going to take position, I nonetheless understand it is going to take position and that i will already understand what the ring appears like. I actually have a very solid feeling that my boyfriend is going to question me, yet i don't understand at the same time as, i don't understand how, and that i don't understand what the ring will seem as if. the in trouble-free terms delight i'd get from going to p.c.. out my ring is understanding that i'd get a hoop =-P

my fiance and I both shopped for my ring together and picked it up together. we got engaged on that day (Feb 2)
I chose a ring that's economical at the same time luxurious (.50 ct) 4 prong single band 14k yellow gold solitaire, of course from a reputable jewelry store. also I have large hands and this ring sits me luxuriously.
so I prefer to choose together.

I don't want to know when he is going to ask me to be his wife, but the biggest part for me is the ring! I certainly want to be the one who picks it out. I will have to wear it for a period of time and I want it to be something that I can wear with honor. I know I will if I pick it out myself. My friend (soon to be fiance') is a little on the thrifty side. I will tell him to start saving for the wedding ring. I already know exactly what I want it to look like-can't wait to ear it with pride! Shopping for the ring helps make it real.

Surprise! If she loves you, she'll love the ring. An engagement ring is a symbol of your love for her and it says you want to spend the rest of your life with her. My husband picked mine and I love it.

I suggest you go shopping with her for something and just look around and ask what rings she likes best then later buy one in the style she likes, but the price range you want and surprise her with it.
