Wh do some highways get so heavy on saturdays or sundays

Because people aren't working and they go out to places, just like YOU. If you noticed it, it's because you were part of the traffic as well.
Same reason why there's no traffic on a weeknight at 3 a.m. People are sleeping waiting to get up for work.

because everyone is off from work ,and have to do all there shopping ,and running errands all day long,and this creates a lot of traffic,considering how many thousands of drivers there is around,at any one given time of the day,and also you get the out of town shoppers to add to this,good luck i hope this help,s.

Hay it's the weekend, people having places to go and things to do rather than go to work. There are a million things to do during the weekend.
