In ancient Jewish tradition Satan is simply an angel doing the work that God assigned to Satan to do.

The word Satan means challenger. With the idea of Satan challenging us, or tempting if you will. This description sees Satan as the angel who is the embodiment of man's challenges. This idea of Satan works closely with God as an integral part of Gods plan for us. His job is to make choosing good over evil enough of a challenge so that it becomes clear to us that there can be only one meaningful or logical choice.

Contrast this to Christianity, which sees Satan as God's opponent. In Jewish thought, the idea that there exists anything capable of setting itself up as God's opponent would be considered polytheistic or setting up the devil to be an equally powerful polarity to god or a demigod.

Oddly, proof for The Christian satan/devil mythology is supposedly found in the ancient Jewish texts that were borrowed to create the bible. One can’t help but wonder how Christians came up with such a fantastically different interpretation of Gods assistant Satan in their theology.

Other hints about Satan’s role in human relations can be seen if you look at the name Lucifer. It’s meaning in the original tongue translates as Light bearer or light bringer. Essentially the bringer of enlightenment. The temptations of the Satan idea bring all of us eventually into Gods light. Hardly the Evil entity of Christian mythology.

Funny thing is, I can actually remember something similar happening in Middle School. This kid wrote down on a piece of paper that one of his classmates was the "Sole and Undisputed Owner of his Soul" in exchange for Lunch Money that had been "conifscated" by a bigger kid when he made the mistake of hanging out behind the gym. I was five feet or so away, and as the kid who "Sold his Soul" walked away with his replacement Lunch Money, I could clearly hear him cackle, "Sucker!". I never cease to be amused by that story =P *kveldulf_gondlir - You must not have done much research into Satanism past the Bible, idiot. Satanism doesn't involve "selling one's soul", and Satan doesn't "Buy" souls, nor does He steal them. He accepts souls that are freely and willingly dedicated to His service, and you can bet those souls don't "Burn in Hell" when we die either. Also, even in that case, Satan Himself isn't going to show up at the Dedication Ceremony. He's a busy God, after all. Crack a book, willya? Ave Satanas! -Valkyri

Try Ebay. They have everything for sale there....

Seriously, you can't "sell your soul"...that's always been a crock. Your spirit belongs to satan by default, since you are a sinner.
However, I guess the idea is that if you are stupid enough to "sell your soul", the chances of your ever discovering your freedom are pretty slim.

BUT, the "Good News" is that Jesus has paid the price to buy your spirit back...He paid your ransom, all He wants is for you to come to Him and live.

if you agree to sell your soul, do not be suprised when somebody else ends up with it. even not signed in blood, a verbal agreement can be all that it takes. i would advise extreme caution in dealing with anybody that will accept a soul for payment. they usually have a way to collect.

one thought i've had when reading stories like 'the devil and daniel webster' about people selling their soul to satan is 'why would he bother trying to buy souls when most folks are willing to just give them away?'

I think it's binding if both of you agree and sign the deal. Otherwise your wasting paper and blood, really.
