You can pretty much use anything. Ziti is just a good choice because it absorbs the sauce with the hole in the center and the (usual) lines on the outside. You could certainly use spirals or penne or anything you please.

You can use any pasta to make baked ziti...2 of my favorites are the bowties and rigatoni don't forget to add sliced sausage or mini meatballs to dress it up this is a perfect last minute dinner for guests add a salad and some italian bread and you've got a great meal

Well, duh-for it to be baked ZITI, yes it has to be ziti. To make a baked pasta dish you can basically use any noodles(spell check) that you want.

Nah...obviously your ziti recipe won't be called ziti if you use different pasta, but you can use penne, mostaccioli, medium shells, or rigatoni. I like using radiatore (little radiators).

Yes, you can substitute any other pasta, as long as it isn't too small. You can use large shells, penne, spirals, etc. You can even use cavatelli pasta. Any macaroni or wide noodle will do.

Yes, you you sure do. but, you can just as easily use macaroni, and simply change the name of the dish, and call it baked macaroni.
