without knowing your "theme", it's hard to provide good ideas, but here are a few of my favorite homemade wedding favors:
Doily cones. I get the 4" paper doilies from the dollar store. Get a piece of heavy cardstock and roll it into a cone shape. Take a doily, wrap it around it and mark where you need to cut off the excess paper. Once you get the form to size, it's just a matter of hot-gluing the doily around the cone. Be sure to pull it off as soon as you glue it or it will get stuck to the cone. Cut a length of tulle and put in it for stuffing. These are great to fill with jordan almonds (wrap them in tulle first so they don't fall out everywhere), hershey kisses (the silver compliments most wedding schemes), etc.
Another idea is canning little jars of jellies. You can put a piece of lace, tuelle or fabric on the top of the jar and tie off with curling ribbon. This is a fabulous idea if someone volunteers to help you with your wedding. One or two can process the jelly for you and then you can have a "favor party" to dress the tops. I'd do a nice little tag on the jars rather than a sticker off the computer.
Herb-flavored oils in little jars are always nice.
A hot chocolate mix is nice & easy if you're doing a fall or winter wedding.
You should re-post with a little more specific information. I think you'll get a lot more ideas....
congratulations & good luck!

Definately go with an edible gift. No one used or keeps other object. Half of your favors won't leave the reception if it is an object. Martha Steward has the cutest little wedding cake made of sugar cookies. It looks really easy to make, and you can make them ahead of time and store in an airtight container and freeze. you can even use the logs of premade cookie dough to make it really easy!
Here is the link to the project:

Check it out! I bet you love it!

You can make your own soaps or candles and wrap them in mesh. Or just dye-cut some bags in your wedding colors and glue them together, add labels, and fill the bags with candy. If you and your fiance have a lot of songs you like, make a cd with all your favorite music. Good luck!

Make a CD with the bride & groom's favorite songs. Put them in individual jewel cases and decorate them according to the wedding theme.

Something unique would be a recipe card that says:
From the Kitchen of: Mr. and Mrs. _________
Then have your favorite recipe on them. Or even a small set of recipe cards, one for a salad, one for an entree and one for a dessert. Inexpensive and original! If you do the set, they could have a hole punched in the upper left hand corner and be tied together with a bow!

I cant remember the site but search for personalized tin mint boxes. My girlfriends used them as favors for there daughters graduations and they were so nice. You email a photo and they put it on the mint box. They have them for weddings you tell them what you want the box to say. You can either get the tins and stuff with you own candy or you can have them stuff them with there candy. The boxes come in different sizes. Check them out.

We are using tulle and wrapping up Hershey's Hugs and Kisses and attaching a cute little note that will say:
Hugs and Kisses from the Mr. & Mrs.
Then it will have our name & wedding date

BUBBLES! Go to your local party store and buy as many little tiny bottles of bubbles as you can afford. I don't they're more than $1 or so each. Then print out some labels on your computer in the colors and fonts that you want, and maybe tie a little tiny ribbon around it that's in your wedding colors! After you're married everybody at your reception can blow bubbles as you walk in! We did that at our wedding! It was pretty cool!
