Hi, I am a sophomore in highschool and am applying to the North Carolina School of Science and Math (NCSSM). This is because I have developed and interest in working in the jungle (specifically of Ecuador) by studying the flora and fauna there and also increasing awareness of how to protect it.
I was born in Ecuador and lived there for the first three and a half years of my life. My Dad lived there for most of his life and grew up living in and around the jungle. He, along with his family, sustained themselves for much of their lives by doing backpacking tours through the jungle and by other informal jungle tourism.
Last summer I went back to Ecuador and while there was able to walk through jungle that my Dad owned. After doing this, I developed a true appreciation for it.
As part of the application process we have to be interviewed. I would like to hear from people working in and for the rain forest so that I will be more studied on the subject and able to talk about it. Thank you.

I would also like to know people's oppinion about me pursuing this as a career goal, and if it has turned out to be something that you love doing.
I have learned how important the jungle is to the environment in terms of absorbing carbon emissions, and that at the same time it is being deforisted at a very rapid pace.
I not only want to study the flora and fauna there, but awareness on how to preserve the jungle. Around my fathers jungle there are many indigenous communities that make a living by cutting down and exporting wood from their jungles, for example, and although they know it is detramental in the long run, it is one of the few ways that they can sustain themselves.
Working to preserve these jungles by finding other ways for these people to make a living is something that I also have an interest in. Also, my Dad and his family are close to the jungle, and have experience w/ Ecuadors beuracrocy.

I wished someone would work on bringing rain-forest back to our world. But to many people want to continue killing our regular forest to. Don't people know that we have to have trees to clean oxygen around us. It would be something if we could work on fixing our forests from all getting taken away.

In answer to the first part of your question, yes a variety of people are interested in studying the rain forest. This is for a variety of reasons, like the rain forest produces 30% of the atmospheres oxygen, it contains species that we know nothing of and a multitude of other reasons. Your career goal is admirable and the world can use all the assistance it can get from all sources.
