My friend has pearly whites and said she would gargle with it. Is is safe? Does it work? $1 generic bottle from grocery store suffice? How long before you see results?

yep, works great!

use a 50/50 mixture of hydrogen peroxide and water, rinse with this for 30 sec. before or after brushing.

I started to really notice a change after about 1 -2 weeks, and I smoke so that says a lot about how well it works.

Hydrogen peroxide is the only ingredient that has been used, and successful in bleaching out the stains in teeth. A hydrogen peroxide-based solution is applied to teeth, sometimes in a custom-fitted mouth guard. It's especially effective in removing coffee or tobacco stains. Dentists say it's important to get this professionally, but you CAN get a kit on the market that will give you good results. The biggest problem doing it at home is not watching the amounts of bleach and irritation to the gums and teeth from overdoing it. By wearing a mouth guard with the bleaching agent in it for about 3 hours a day, results will be seen in about 2 weeks.

Hydrogen peroxide is in whitening toothpastes. I use Colgate or Crest whitening, but first I use Whitening Listerine (it's in the white bottle) which has h.peroxide as the whitening ingredient as well. I have used this routine for about 4 months and it really works. I have cut my coffee/tea intake to about 2 cups per day, which also helps.

20 years of smoking and coffee discoloured my teeth, but I've had a really dramatic change. I still would like to go to the dentist to get whitening treatments from time to time. It would make my teeth even whiter.

I can't bend my arms (due to paralyzing drugs I was injected with during a coma) and have to use sticks for everything so that I can reach to do certain tasks (ex. fork, spoon, hair pick and my power flosser is on a stick) so I can't do the home whitening kits that have the tray that you keep in your mouth for deep whitening. If I could, I would probsbly try that for sure.

I wouldn't rinse my mouth with real h. peroxide though. Even the thought of it makes me nauseous.

Some people have naturally white teeth that is hard to show stains. hydrogen peroxide cleans and freshens the mouth, but not necessarily whitens your teeth. Why? Any method of teeth whitening cannot be rinsed out after just a gargle and really work effectively. Ask your dentist!!

Yes you can use hydrogen peroxide to whiten your teeth. It works to some degree but I would not use it for a long period of time because it can do damage to your gums. I would try using baking soda. People have been known to use baking soda to whiten their teeth.

Perfectly safe, it's what most of the expensive products are actually made of. Don't actually brush with it as you can end up with white-lined gums . . . this does self-resolve but can be a bit embarrassing for a day or so. Just gargle and swish it around in your mouth, wait a couple minutes, and then rinse with warm water.

You may see results right away or if you do it daily it should take a maximum of a week to start seeing results.

Try white strips or something similar. I think that straight peroxide could possibly harm your teeth and gums. You should really only use the products that are specifically for whitening teeth.

Not sure.
I do know this: It will kill some of the germs in your mouth. Try using a whitening toothpaste (Colgate or Crest) and a whitening mouth wash (Listerine makes a good one).
