I'll take that one.
We're people who believe in a Creator. We might even swallow the story of Jesus...
but
we take it a little deeper, or perhaps in a different sense than "literalists."
We believe in treating other humans with a modicum of respect; no matter what they believe.
We aren't totally obsessed with trying to correct or convert others.
We don't have a problem with the "pleasures of the flesh."
We're more involved with loving our spouses and family and enjoying life than "witnessing."
Just my opinion....
Peace.

Liberal Christians are generally those that have elevated reason or tradition above Scripture. They don't hold that the Scripture is true.
You can see the effects of liberalism in the churches that abandon Scripture. Their attendance suffers, because there are no standards. People leave liberal churches in droves.
An example of this is the Episcopal Church. On paper, the Episcopal Church is a model of Christianity. In practice (because they don't believe the Bible), they embrace many unbiblical concepts.
A schism grows within, and conservative parishes are leaving the Episcopal Church, and aligning with Anglican Churches in Africa, where orthodoxy still reigns.

Liberal Christians are people who believe the teachings of Jesus in the Bible to be divinely inspired prophesy about the righteous way to live and treat others but do not believe that Jesus was God. They don't believe in the resurection. They don't believe you have to be saved from sin.
BTW, the person above me is totally wrong.
And the tradition of Liberal Christianity dates before the 3rd century AD, predating the modern Bible.

first off, you need to understand what a Christian is...just attending a 'Christian church' or deciding that Jesus is just alright with you, doesn't make you a Christian, any more than sitting in a parking lot yelling 'beep-beep' makes you a Chrysler-a Christian is a follower of Christ...that being said, those considered 'liberal Christians' are those who are most concerned with helping their fellow man, and are concerned primarily with things like homelessness, hunger, inadequate housing and health care...conservative Christians are (or seem to be, being fairly liberal, i'm not going to claim to be totally objective although i try to be) more concerned with what they see as their duty to rid society of sin, be it thru example, legislation, the media, or the courts...

I think these folks are pretty liberal, in a tree-hugging sort of way.

I think it's great, Christians for the mountains is a non-denominational organization, they see humans as the caretakers of the planet, not just the species that dominates.

to me....a liberal christian is one that believes that Christ was a messiah. they believe in employing basic teachings of Jesus like love one another, and forgive each other. i believe a liberal christian tends to be much less judge mental of others, including those with other belief systems.they don't get caught up in all the legalism, and may realize more fully that god is much bigger than most of us can fathom. that include his love for ALL of his creation.
just my opinion of the definition :)

Thoughtfully yes...But let me give you something to think about, in another area.
Almost all your Democrats and there is some Republicans too but mostly Democrats...spend our MONEY with many of their bills or plans to pull the wool over OUR eyes, to make them fat and rich. Most of them are so called Christian.
Peace.....

This is one of the most misunderstood issues...
Christians who are politically and culturally conservative are generally the most liberal in theology, and Christians who are the most liberal in politics and culture are generally the most conservative in theology.
"Conservative" means "traditional." Conservative Christians practice Christian traditions that have been handed down through the centuries. The closer a Church is to ancient, historical Christianity, the more conservative it is. This means that the most conservative Christians support things like evolution (first advocated by Christian theologians in the 2nd and 3rd centuries AD), homosexual unions (first proposed by Byzantine Christians over 1000 years ago), Universalism (first proposed by Christian theologians in the 3rd century AD), religious freedom (first proposed by Christians in the 4th century), an allegorical interpretation of Scripture (first proposed by theologians in the 2nd century AD).
Liberal Christianity, on the other hand, promotes non-traditional doctrines and values like ammendments against homosexual unions (first proposed this century), a literal reading of Scripture (first proposed this century), the idea that non-Christians burn in hell for eternity (a relatively recent doctrine by Christian standards), etc.
The problem is that most 'liberal' Christians are Neo-Conservative, and so are labelled "conservative Christianity." Most 'conservative' Christians are either Libertarian or Liberal in politics, and so are labelled "liberal Christianity."
