Van Gogh, because his work speaks to me of authenticity, of straight forward desire to be one with the nature of human, subject, and oil paint. I am awe struck at his purity.

He wrote in one of his famous letters that (and I am paraphrasing) all he wanted from an eventual viewer was for them to see he was a man who felt deeply!!!!!

The intensity.!!
I can relate like his soul mate and I believe in their own way my paintings divulge this of me as well.

I have a family friend who took painting classes with Hugh Breckenridge in the late 20's or early 30's. She bought or traded for a large ocean scene with large clipper ships. It's really nice and it inspierd me to check out his other work, which I reallly like now. I'm not one to pick the most famous, that's too easy.

Monet or Grimshaw.

In my opinion Monet is absolutely the best Impressionist painter. No other painter can equal him in giving the viewer the correct impression through his work. He seems to have a unique ability to convey his own feelings through his work.

As for Grimshaw his paintings just really appeal to me; although, most of them tend to be very similar.

Some others I like are "Meditation" (William Merritt Chase), "Le Lac D'Annecy" (Cezanne), "Rue de Paris" (Coulis), "The Oath of the Horatii" (David), "Kindred Spirits" (Durand), "The Thinker" (Eakins), "Wander Above the Sea of Fog" (Friedrich), "Silence" (Fuseli), "Call to Arms" (Leighton), "The Nation Makers" (Pyle), "The American Way" (Rockwell), "Sir Galahad" (Watts).

I like Vincent Van Gogh, I have tried to copy his technique (not his work) as a learning tool.

For some reason it's not cool for an artist to like Thomas Kincaid but he's pretty awesome, if you like that kind of stuff. It's probably jealousy of his talent or envious of his success.

Gustav Klimt.

I love studies of the female body; his used exquisite form, color, and semi erotic poses. The gold leaf was an unusual touch that he mastered.
