Also, avoid extremes such as very hot or very cold foods, use an over the counter pain reliever, and try to get some rest. Avoiding drafts and wind may be helpful, too.

In addition to using the pain medication of your choice, sleep on an extra pillow to elevate your head. Sleep on the side that does NOT have a toothache. If that doesn't work, you can move to a recliner or the sofa so you can keep your head really elevated. This will minimize the blood flow to the area and therefore minimize the throbbing and pain. This might help you make it through the night until you can see a dentist.

Oil of cloves, (if you have it) is good. Apply / hold next to painful tooth/gum with some cotton wool
Painkillers will help you:
You can safely combine a) paracetamol (take 1 g four times per day) with b) an antiinflammatory eg Ibprofen (take 400 mg three times per day with food, as long as you have no contraindications) - hopefully you have these in the house. It's worth taking painkillers regularly rather than waiting for them to wear-off. If If you don't have these, get them from a pharmacy. A pharmacist can very helpful with advice.
'Bonjella' and 'Anebesol' can be bought across the counter and can help with painful gums. They do not help much with deep-seated toothache.
Hope this keeps it under control, 'til you are able to see the dentist!

There are commercial products at the drugstore to ease that pain - ask the druggist. I think one was called Anbesol (?)
Bourbon is also good. Hold it in your mouth against the tooth and the area where the pain is. It will ease the pain. Then swallow. That helps too.
