I am using bandaids and lotion, but the cracks seem to come back. Any idea of how to fix this? I know it's not all that important compared to other problems.... But I would like some suggestions as to how to repair the cracks (red, bloody sometimes and tender to the touch).

I would suggest neosporin for the cracks on your thumbs. During winter it is important to use a moisturizing lotion on your hands several times a day and again before bed time. This will help keep your skin hydrated and stop the cracking.

This is very important, I don't know why you would consider cracked thumbs to be unimportant. Every aspect of a person's health is important! Everyone else is correct, go get some specialty cream they use to treat cow udders. It is the best moisturizer for dry, cracked skin. Get a pair of cheap knit gloves. Slather up your hands with moisturizer before bed, and then slap on the gloves and sleep with them like that. The gloves should help hold on the moisturizer. Keeping up with your routine is key. It doesn't help if you do it once or twice and forget about it. Make it something you do every night... do it to your feet with socks, too!

I'ts very important sore hands are like sore feet-we use them so much and when they hurt we hurt all over. Eucerin makes an ointment called Aquaphor. I've had good luck with that I hope it helps you too. Try putting it on through out the day but also at night and get some white cotton gloves (Wal-Mart) wear the gloves all night if you can. I use Triple Antibiotic ointment as I would a handcreme whenever it happens to me. The small amount is used to insulate, protect, and improve the opportunity for the skin to heal. If used especially at night before bed, it helps to restore moisture and aid healing during the night...wake up feeling much better!

Hockey players use super glue to patch up the cracks in their hands. It's a temporary fix but it stops the pain and it covers the crack.

best thing in the world for dry cracked skin is a cream called utter cream. this is no joke you can get this at your pharmacy. its main usage is for cows teets. you go and read the label and ask the pharmacist. it is the best thing in the world.

and if you can get to a vet or pet store ...
Teat cream for cows udders is actually the quickest and the safest...

Well for the moment , keep mineral oil on your hands ...but you need to drink much more liquid !
