I really hate it when people assume that I should have kids because I'm 30. I was getting my hair cut the other day and the stylist asked me how many kids I had, I responded "none", and she actually put her hand on my shoulder and said "That's OK dear!". Umm, yeah, it's ok! I chose it, right?
Anyhow, I think that it's considered selfish because for so many years we society taught us that getting married and having kids should have been #1 on our priority list, and times are changing, it's not like that. I think a lot of people still have that stuck in their heads.

It would seem that a person with that opinion is only thinking of what s/he would do if s/he didn't get married and have children . . . or, it's an uneducated, uninformed, narrow-minded person. Look at the world - there are millions of people who have never been married or married and not had children (for any number of reasons) who are devoting their lives to others. For example (and I'm not pushing religion or even that premise) priests and nuns take a vow of celibacy but devote their lives to serving others.
It is certainly not selfish to choose a lifestyle in which one feels the most comfortable - it is wise. I'd rather have wisdom working in the world than unwise people marrying and/or procreating who should not be doing either.

the way i see it its selfish to have a child now what with the world falling apart . 50 years from now things are going to be unbearable so dont have kids.
as for not getting married a great many people should not have been married ever so think about that.
i am not married would not bring a child into this world its not safe and i am fine with that.

I don't know, but that is a good question. I'm 50 and have never been married or had any children. It use to bother me and I felt out of place, especially in church. Hmm, I will say this. In all honesty, you can't be a self-absorbed or self-centered individual to have a spouse, let alone children. So, I can kind of see how people in general might judge us single types. But, as a friend of mine says, "I'd rather be miserable and alone than miserable and married." Strikes a chord with me.

I think such people think that their way of life is the only "right" way, and perhaps have less in the way of imagination so as to be able to conceive of other ways of living. It's just another example of a reason not to let someone else live your life for you.

I've wondered that myself.
I would think it MORE selfish to marry someone you don't love and have kids that just add to our already overpopulated planet.

I dont know. Thats just stupid for ppl to say that. Its your choice what you want to do with your life. Children and marriage are a big responsibility, and committment.*

Because they believe they are devoting all of their time to only one person instead of many. I guess, maybe they are just crazy.
