I am pregnant with a boy. And am wondering if boys have as many play dates and sleepovers as girls. My daughter is seven and will spend an hour on the phone with her best friend on a free evening

LOL>>funny you should ask this..as mom to 3 and one being a 17yo boy..I have found out myself. Generally, boys don't get real social til about jr. high or high school. Til then it's bday parties, or play dates. My son and his buddies can be on the phone as long or longer than any girl. They don't call them sleep overs at his age, but they "crash" at each other's houses once in awhile. Girls really are the social butterflies. My two girls ..5 and 6 are invited to something every night of the week and always on weekends. Boys are generally easier in all ways.

not usually. in the beginning stages, there is hardly any difference between the level of social activity of girls and of boys. but as he gets older (around the age of sleepovers) he has already learned (without noticing) "how to be a boy" and that's where the divide begins and this usually means few, if any, sleepovers. not every child may see things the same way so he may want one every weekend...never really know.

congrats on the pregnancy.

My son is 23 and I cannot think of one solitary time in his life when he had friends sleep over, and he never went to a friend's to sleepover. Once when he was 8 I asked him if he wanted his friend Andy to sleep over so they could hang out all night together, he looked at me as if I had just slapped him and said: "No way"!
He always had a lot of friends, it just wasn't something he ever wanted to do. He's very social though. He is always on the phone with one of his buddies or his girlfriend, and he has plenty of sleepovers at his friends' houses NOW, but that's because he's probably had one too many Guinness's to make a safe drive home (lol).

Nope.. boys are usually less social, and tend to prefer to be home with the family. Well at least mine do. Every once in a while my son will ask if a friend can stay over or vice versa... but for the most part he gets his fill of friends at school. and his phone calls are relatively short, usually just to check in with the best bud...

Usually, boys are only interested in having sleepovers with girls, not other boys.

oh no, boys are COMPLETELY opposite of girls, boys go on sleepovers, but a whole lot less, if ever.

I don't think so..I think staying all night is more of a girl thing. boys don't have as much to talk about as girls do it seems....
