I've used gunbroker.com, both buying and selling, with great results.

First off, find a local Federal Firearm License (FFL) dealer who will receive your purchase for you. Do a search in gunbroker.com, as these are dealers who deal with purchases through the website.

Under each dealer's listing should be a listing of the fees they will charge for receiving your purchase; these fees vary from state to state. Also note that if you intend to gift the firearm, you might want the recipient go down and do the paperwork for the transfer. I know that it might ruin a surprise, but that might the best thing to do in the long run. Once you find a local FFL Dealer, you can discuss it with him/her.

Good luck, and feel free to e-mail me for any clarification. I'm sure others here will have additional information that I may have forgot to post.

The auctions sites of gunbroker.com and gunsamerica.com are a good bet. Keep in mind that unless you are buying a gun in your state, it will have to be transferred to a dealer in your state which will incur a charge. Check out your local shops. They may be a few bucks more, but they will be there to support you when you need it...besides, when you factor in the transfer fees and shipping, it will probably be just as cheap to buy it locally.

A dealer can't ship you a operable firearm unless you have an FFL, so the simplest thing will be a pawn shop. If you have a Cabelas or something close by that's you best bet.

What you need to ask is, "HOW DO I APPLY FOR AN FFL". Because without one you can not buy on the WWW.

I prefer pawn shops, they are over the counter transactions and you can get a good deal if you buy more.
