A bird is just like a child! They talk how much they want to & when they want to. (depending on the type of bird)

My african grey will not shut up! My English Budgie will not shut up. My yellow nape amazon only says about 50 words.

At 8 months, he's still just a baby, really. Give him some time to mature. Most parrots don't reach maturity until 18 months to 3 years of age (when they often go through a nippy, mercurial stage often called, appropriately enough, "the terrible twos"). Even then, they can and will still learn lots of words and sounds - and for a bird that can live upward of 60 years, you may have your hands (and ears) full!

There are some other factors, of course. First, you can't REALLY tell the sex of Amazon parrots unless you've got the bird DNA-sexed. You don't say if your bird is confirmed as a boy, but male parrots generally tend to be better talkers than the females, and if you've got a girl, she just might tend to be quieter. (There are, of course, always exceptions.)

And there's individuality. Birds, like people, all have different personalities, and some, like people, just don't WANT to talk much, especially if they think they can get attention in other ways. Make lots of fuss and give attention and treats or favourite toys whenever your bird uses human speech instead of screaming or sounding like the telephone. Some birds like to have a mirror to practice their speech with. My Indian ringneck parrot (confirmed male) goes into his little "roll" of all the words he knows whenever he's in front of a mirror. A lot of times, too, they just jabber and talk softly to themselves, practicing the sounds until they think it's just right.

For a popular time proprietor, i do no longer propose any species of Amazon. they may be incredibly hormonal and nippy while the hotter climate occurs (by way of their mating season). Amazon parrots are additionally incredibly long-lived persons (50 years isn't uncommon). you're babies would enhance tired of the chicken while its novelty wears off (bear in concepts, babies tire of issues incredibly devoid of postpone). I advise finding lower back into budgies. they are appealing persons and require much less care than Amazon parrots. Their lifespan is likewise notably shorter (with sturdy care, a budgie would stay for 15-2 a protracted time). Amazon parrots make remarkable pets to boot, yet they do no longer look to be devoid of flaws (as the different puppy). in case you prefer to later own an Amazon, initiate by ability of taking good care of smaller species of caged birds (like budgies). then you definately can gradually circulate as much as the greater desirable species.

It's not definite that your Amazon will talk a lot, but make sure you talk and interact with him a lot. He may only learn a few words at most.
