I was snuggling with my pet poodle and happend to feel a lump on her side. She has an appointment to see the vet on Tuesday. She seems to feel fine, and she doesn't seem to feel any pain when I rub the lump. If you have ever had a similar experience, what did your vet say? I know the vet will tell me what she thinks on Tuesday, but I am still worried. When you love your pet as much as we love Lexie, Tuesday seems FAR away. Any input?

Since it doesn't seem to bother her, it is okay to wait until her appointment on Tuesday to talk to the veterinarian. It is possible that the lump is one of many benign things out there, such as a fatty tumor. There is always the chance that it is something worse, but worrying yourself won't do anyone any good. My cat (I know you have a dog but I had a similar problem) developed some lumps which turned out to be allergic reactions to his food and the problem was fixed simply by switching him to a prescription diet.
Your veterinarian will probably do a fine needle aspirate, in which they insert a tiny needle into the lump, extract some cells and view them under a microscope. That will be your starting point and will point you in the right direction for any future treatment.
It is very hard when you are worried about your pets, but remember that they pick up on your moods and feelings, and if you are upset they will know. Keep a positive attitude :)

Good luck!

As a groomer, I see pets with lumps all of the time. Usually it is a sebaceous cyst. Fatty deposits under the skin. Your vet can remove it and have it analyzed if you are really worried. It's a rather simple surgical procedure. Relax and wait for the vet's opinion.

Feel it if it moves and feels fattyish then its probably a lipoma..if its hard thats when you need to worry.. does it move? how big? they will probably do a fine needle aspirate and look at the cells under a micrscope. if it is on the side they will probably tell you to watch it for growth. check it regularly.. then if it grows rapidly get it removed if it only grows slowly and almost unnoticable then its ok.. just watch it... your baby will be fine... seen lots of lumps and bumps...I am a retired vet tech and you can relax until tuesday...smile

Hopefully it is just a simple cyst or a fatty tumor. Both is usually nothing to worry about and can be removed .Good luck on Tuesday.

I've seen this many times. It is likely that your dog may have been kicked by someone or perhaps something accidentally fell on her. The other thing it could likely be is a tumor. Honestly, there is no way to know without seeing it and running tests, but form my experience it is generally either trauma or a tumor.

My dog has little lumps all over her, the vet said it's just like people, some get moles,or calcium deposits, some get bumps. My dog is a St.Bernard, her bumps don't bother her and we just leave them alone. No worry....................it's fine.
