Every manufacturer says THEIR detector is the best. I don't KNOW which is best, but check this web site for some info.

The BEST radar detector is relative to the features you like/need.....There are 5 radar detectors with equal performance in most respects and will save you tickets contrary to what some will tell you. The Top 5 radar detectors are(in no specific order) the:
BEL RX65
BEL STi
Escort 8500 X50
Escort 9500i
Valentine 1

I personally use the Valentine 1 as well as the BEL vector 995 both have saved me huge fines when dealing with police radar. But for dealing with Laser you really need a laser jammer(illegal in some states) I use a Blinder M20 and Anti-Laser laser jammers on my volvo along with VEIL stealth coating and LaserShield plate cover.

For those that say a radar detector is just a ticket notifier obviously don't have experience with a top level detector. Ask any of my friends that ride in my car. My detectors both sniff out cops easily and give me plenty of time to slow down when usually going 10-15mph over the limit.

To me the best bang for your buch radar detector is the BEL 895, for $200 at Radio Shack. The BEL 895 is not the best but it is certainly up there with the top 3 radar detectors[Escort 8500 X50($300), BEL RX65($329.99), and Valentine 1($400)] I personally have a BEL Vector 995($270) and Valentine 1($400) and their is only a slight difference in detection range. I like both detectors equally due to their unique features.

I've been using a passport 8300 or 8500, don't know which one but it works great. It picks up 4 bands. Even though a cobra picks up 11 bands, that just means more junk and false alarms it will pivk up, especially around cities. Don't get wireless either. The batteries weakening means weaker pickup for something hiding. A passport is about 300 bux, but its worth the money. Problem is, no matter what fuzz buster you got, if they use laser or shoot the radar gun on and off, you will know when you got hit with it but they already have your mph. Any radar detector is only good if the cop leaves his gun on from a spot where he is hiding and shoots outward, more commonly found on local roads. You'll see some state troopers on highways do the same, but most shoot their guns at you or use laser beams, which in that case if your already going too fast, its too late to do anything about it. My passport has picked off cops on the roads from 3/4 mile away. That would be my reccomendation.

Save your money and buy something else. If you follow the speed limit you don't have to worry about anything at all. with radar detector you still don't have a peace of mind..

Valentine One. Its pricier, but its damn near fool proof. Shelling out a couple more bucks will save you lots more money in the long run.

Nearly every test ever run by car magazines it has placed first and it has saved me more times then I thought possible.

Passport 8500 would be my only other option.

I cant tell you which one to buy, but I can tell you that certain types will be illegal within the next couple of months. Get caught with one (not using it) and your looking at 6 points and a large fine. Be wary of sudden bargains and check some sites to see where you stand.

Snooper make a good one as does Bel and Road Angel its best to go to a stockist ask them their advice and go for the best you can afford, I bought one about 2 years ago and now its giving false alarms and mine was s cheapo at the time so its best to buy good at the time.

Somethingawful's AI agrees, Valentine 1 or don't bother.

Edit: For half the speed limits in the US, the only reason it's there is revenue generation.

again repeating what others have said.....VALENTINE ONE. best one there is. k40 makes one almost as good, same price and they will pay your ticket if you get one, they also make jammers to go w/ them and kits to hide them from police in states where they are illegal.
