Yes - you can purchase a Win XP upgrade CD and install over your Win ME installation, however it is not advisable!

Win XP is a completely different animal to ME and upgrading comes with many potential pitfalls.

My advice would be to spend a few $$'s (££'s!!) more and get an OEM full XP CD then backup all your documents/email settings, basically anything that you do not want to lose and boot from the XP CD and pick to do a fresh installation. You will get many less headaches in the future!

You could always go to Ubuntu (Linux) or another similar distribution which will be free and give you much better security and features than your present 'ME' system!

WinME has many bugs, issues especially trying to run new software. WinME is the only Microsoft OS that can NOT be upgraded. You must run a clean install of a new OS. I've been in hardware/software support a long time and I would definitely consider a new OS. If you are running WinME, your current pc probably can not handle much more than Win2000 or XP(maybe). I run Win2000 Pro on a P4 2.0Ghz 512MB-RAM and WinXP Pro on a AMD 2.4Ghz 1GB-RAM

Yes you can upgrade but one thing to be aware of is that once the upgrade is completed to XP you will have to reinstall all your Network drivers as XP doesn't upgrade them correctly. It's a bug I've come across on every upgrade that i have done on ME. Hope this helps!

If you have ME then your upgrade to XP or Vista will not be an easy task. Go to Microsoft's site and download a hardware campatibity checker to see if your pc can be upgraded to XP and Vista first.

yes, if you have an upgrade disc it will give you the option to keep all programs already installed or you can start over fresh. the upgrade disc only mean that you have to have a version of windows already installed before it will work
