A long long time - about 80 years
If you buy one, make sure you make provisions for it in your will
too many parrots end up unwanted after someone has passed on
Problem being that they have already been taught (sometimes unsavoury) words.
No other member of the family then wants that bird around
Try your RSPCA for an older bird (someetimes not that old - just outliving it's owners) all they ask for is a small donation and proof that you have the space and knowledge to look after one

Pet birds can be quite long lived. As a general rule, the larger the bird, the longer the expected life span. Listed below are some estimated life spans for common parrots and other pet birds. These are of course based on a healthy bird kept under ideal conditions. In reality there is quite a wide range in the age that pet birds might reach, and certainly some will even live longer than the ages listed below:

Finches - 15 years
Canaries - 15 years
Budgies - 15 years
Cockatiels - 20 years
Lovebirds - 20 years
Conures - 30 years
Amazons - 50 years
African Greys - 50 years
Cockatoos - 65 years
Macaws - 60 years
Doves and Pigeons - 20 years

Actually most animals live much much longer in captivity than in the wild. There is no competition, better nutrition and shelter and no disease etc. We don't really know how long parrots can live in the wild becaused it's just never been studied before. In captivity however, they live for about a decade (for the smaller species) to supposedly 80 - 100 years for the larger birds like the Greater Sulphur Crested and Muloccan cockatoos. But that's usually a rough estimate since the oldest birds on record were mostly wild-caught. Some birds like the budgie are very affordable while other rarer ones are downright priceless. You'd really have to do your research for this one. They're not like rabbits or guinea pigs where you just go to a petstore and pick one you fancy most. Some species are extremely intelligent and demanding and even most bird fanciers can't really cope with the demands of keeping a cockatoo or African Grey parrot happy and sane their entire lives..

they can live to be very old, as mentioned above. Furthermore, large parrots are challenging and intelligent animals. You should do a lot of research about parrots and the specific breed you are interested in before committing to take care of these high-maintenance creatures for decades to come.

They are expensive to buy and they are expensive to keep. You have to go to vets that treat birds, you have to get the giant cages, you have to get the food for them, the chew toys, etc. Also, most parrots, if they don't get a lot of time out and socializing can become loud, dangerous and irritating. Make sure you research the bird you get.

parrots can live anywhere from 10 years to 70+ years. i sorry i dont know where you can get one in the NW. i have one and he's an African Grey definitely the smartest and he cost about 800 dollars from a private breeder. a pet store may have them for 1200 dollars. if its your first bird get a cockatiel or a parakeet. if you like them, get a bird talk magazine and read up on birds before deciding what kind to get. hope i helped.

If you buy a large parrot such as an African Grey or Amazon it will cost £300-£500.You can get an aviary reared youngster for £300 but it's best to get hand reared birds as they're already tame-they cost £500 or more.

They have long lives if well cared for-up to 80 years.

Life span of african grey parrot: 50 to 60 years. If you take care of it and learn about parrots, you should have a pal for most of your life.

thats a broad question but here you go most parrots live around 10 to 80 years and demand attention! i would suggest a bird show where you can meet the breeder and get to know alot about the bird you are looking at!!!! since as a breeder myself i love my birds and know how much time is required to handle and care for one properly. look to the internet and you should find a bird show near your home! go to one or two do the research and home work, price the equipment and cost of monthly care then pick a bird that fits your price range. remember this bird will demand your love and care for it life spand so be ready!!!!!
