Hello Pix...I've read your link and agree with it..i also agree with the posterJeremiah 1,and some of what the poster Mrsbadgrumbles have said.
I think you have to ask The Lord Himself and then listen to your heart. I tithed for around 12 yrs and went without many things like new clothes furniture for my home and other important things, when a friend told me she has never tithed. So we talked about it and i decided to stop and listen to my heart about 2 yrs ago. Since i've stopped tithing i've been very blessed in all sorts of ways, my family seem to put more money in my birthday cards and my cousin paid for more than half my lap top. These are some of the ways God blesses us, and it isnt always financial. My friend has never gone without anything and has been unable to work for many yrs because of a disability. The bible says If your heart doesn't convict you. There is also a text that says when you have put aside your offerings and you are unable to make the journey, " have a party"...
You will learn to listen to what God is saying because we are just human and sometimes we think we're right and find we change our minds on such things as tithing. God will provide for you whatever your decision, and all God asks for is that you love Him. It sounds like you want to do the right thing and He knows that. I'm not saying don't give, there are other ways to give, the elderly neighbour may need a few groceries or help in the house, a charity that's close to your heart...listen to your heart, you won't go wrong.. sorry this is a bit long but i really want you to have peace in this...

God doesn't need your money. Taxation in the old testament is the same as the tax you pay to the state now. The new testament talks about giving. Giving isn't only money. I have known people who have tithed money to their churches and been in debt, God doesn't want you to be in that situation. You don't tithe money that doesn't belong to you. Let your tithe be giving as that's biblical. And give it with a pure and happy heart. God loves you and doesn't want you to be in debt. If you did follow the old testament rules it would be about 23%. My advice is give and that could be your time, your help. Paint a fence for someone in need. Take them shopping. God doesn't need your money everything belongs to him anyway. Give according to your means not what's dictated by mans doctrines.
Pix if you were to stay at someones house you would contribute. It's the same with the Church buildings.
Don't be told you can't work all this our your self. Look into it thoroughly. Be bold don't just go with the crowd find out the truth in this matter.

Tithing comes from the old testament. ten percent of everyone's crops went into communal storage for communal savings. What we do today is not tithing; the church has simply re-applied the concept to demanding we take on an extra monthly bill to help the institution fund itself. If you can't pay your rent this month, if it really were tithing, then you could get the rent from the storehouse without any hassle. It doesn't work that way, does it?
Religious people who believe things like "tithing shows obedience" and "God will reward you" have been brainwashed and manipulated.

You will have to decide that for yourself. Malachi talks about bringing your offering into the storehouse. That was in Malchi's time. that was when the Levite Preists were running the Temple and had to have a 'Living'; however, Jesus changed that. That is when the scripture takes on a new meaning.
In relation to Jesus and Christianity, that offering is made after accepting Jesus Christ as your Lord and Saviour. When you have made a choice to become a christian, your offring is made in being obedient to Jesus and the will of God the Father.
Jesus said "Love thy neighbour as I have loved you"
You can't covet someone else's possesions if you love that person.
you can't kill someone if you love them.
You can't steal from someone if you love them. Etc, etc, etc...
If you make an offering to the Lord then you have to do it on a daily basis. That would be your tithe. God will prosper you wheter you give him your money or not. God has blessed you with a job or with money or with possessions, he does require you to steward them well. He gave them to you. If you give to the church to propegate the work of the church, then praise God, but tithing is no longer Law.

a tithe is giving 10% of what we earn, I do not think we should do this. I think it is more about giving what we can, even if it is very little.
I can't remember exactly where in the bible it is but I remember a story about Jesus being in the temple and seeing a poor women give very little and some rich men giving a lot. He said she had given more than the rich because it was all she afford. I do not think God would want us to go without basic necessities just do we could give 10%

The church has taken the 10% figure from the Old Testament and applied it as a recommended minimum however this is what the New Testament says "Each man should give what he has decided in his heart to give, not reluctantly or under compulsion, for God loves a cheerful giver” (2 Corinthians 9:7).

That doesn't mean that he knows what he's talking about. Tithe, but Jesus said be wise as serpents, but harmless as doves (Matthew 10:16). That means check on each place and only tithe to where you KNOW the money will be doing God's work. I prefer to give directly to the missionary whom I know personally, and I am regularly apprised of her accomplishments.

Tithing is biblical, and if you are truly a Christian (find out at www.needgod.com to be sure), think about all God has done for you in sending his Son, Jesus Christ, to be the sacrifice for your sins. And if you have truly been born again, well, is ten percent really too much to ask for? He *owns* everything, even your very next breath. Personally, I think God was being too generous when he said ten percent.

Tithing shows obedience. In other words it is a physical action of our faith. We are showing God that we believe in Jesus by giving. This is also considered a sacrifice eo by giving back to God we allow ourselves to be blessed. I hope the Spelling Cop doesn't catch me!
