Why are 90+% of the intellectual elite atheist? I am a non-intellectual atheist with my own ideas...?

My humble guess....Religion is a way to answer many of the "why"s people have in day-to-day life...Science offers another means to answer these questions, we no longer need to think God has punished us with a storm, when we can see meteorological patterns...

Maybe it's just that the same people who are unsatisfied with superstitious answers are drawn to both atheism and science....

In China Daoistas (Taoistas), added Buddhists and Christians represent 3% 4% of the population and Muslen only 1% 2% of the population, that is the smashing majority is atheistic. Therefore, Chinese also are human beings and they do not adore God none and they are not destroyed nor punished therefore, for the the opposite, China has presented a surprising growth and probably it will be the biggest economic and military power of this planet.

The question to imagine, to assume, to exist perpetual life has origin in the proper psychology of the vanity person and ambitious person of the human being. First it imagined a “God Perpetual” and later he wanted to imitate the “God” who he himself imagined and if to become perpetual spirit and if imagined possessing of a perpetual spirit, wanted to resemble the “God” who he himself created in its imagination!

This is the case of one illusion producing other illusion!

Because they try to outthink God. This is not possible so they give up and choose not to believe. I believe there is a creator, I have a great life and I believe that I will have a great afterlife. All that an atheist has is this life with no hope for anything else. I am not an intellectual Christian but that seems like a shame. I'll take my gig.

You should read the book Men of Science Men of God, about many well known Scientists. My husband has a PhD in Physics and is a believer in Christ. The ones that consider themselves "intellectual elite" might have too much pride to realize they can't get to heaven on their own and they need Christ. The ones that accept Christ have humility and actually study the Bible! Many people do not get it, just because they have never really studied the Bible.

1) Intelligence is NOT the same as wisdom. "The fear of the LORD is the beginning of wisdom: and the knowledge of the holy is understanding" (Proverbs 9:10).

2) Much of what these intellectuals went thru amounted to indoctrination as much as actual education. Students are brainwashed. Really. The standard techniques of brainwashing are used in many colleges: removal from familiar and family, approval for agreement, ridicule for disagreement, long hours, sleep deprivation . . ..

Anyone with a high IQ, especially approaching the 200's and considerable reasoning skills sees religion for what it is: an unintelligible and meaningless comforting rationalization for why we are here. Intelligent people like us can deal with the fact that we were conceived by chance.

How did you arrive at that conclusion? Is it from a reliable research study? I have met hundreds of atheists who have an IQ of less than 90%. How did I arrive at that conclusion? I used to give psychological tests in an HRD office. You sound like you belong to this category yourself.

Because they make idols out of their own thoughts and ideas. They exalt the human intellect beyond its place, not realizing that it isn't perfect and that they are capable of being wrong. Though they are gifted intellectually, they use their intellect to create their own reality to hide in so they feel like they have control over the world around them. Lots of people do that in their own way, some using intellect, some using physical strength, some using money, some using relationships. There is nothing wrong with any of these things, except when we make them our reality, that is, make them the gods that order our reality.

To come to Christ, one must surrender to God, that means shedding all these things we use to paint our own reality, let the walls of our comfort zone come down so that nothing but bare reality is exposed, no longer held back by our comfort zones, self-righteousness, greed, or fear. This is repentance. (Not that anyone is pefect at this all the time, but that in our weaknesses God is strong.)

The more educated you become the more you question such nonsense as the bible. But being super intelligent is not a prerequisite to become an atheist. I believe I am intelligent but not anymore so than the average person.

i'm advantageous that there are some very clever atheists, to boot as some very clever religious human beings. The term "psychological elite" can not be widely utilized to, or constrained to, anybody group of human beings.
