That type of surgery is very complicated and most patients end up on a ventilator for a short period after the surgery. I wouldn't worry until the surgeon tells you how the surgery went and what to expect going forward. Most brain stem tumors are not surgically removeable, so your brother has a better situation than most brain stem tumors.

Pray for him and wait to talk with the surgeon and the cancer doctors.

Brain stem.is responsible for basic vital life functions such as breathing, heartbeat, and blood pressure. Removing a tumor from there is extremely risky -I dont think anything went wrong-
I think is a lucky man to be alive.

The brain stem contains the area of the brain that tells the diaphragm to work. I am so sorry that this happened.
