I think it is because of the chemicals we are putting into food, candy, and gum, plus what we have in our bathing and washing soaps. Anyone else have some ideas?
Of course, there are other answers. Like exposure to too much sun : skin cancer, and smoking : lung cancer. But what about other cancers that perfectly healthy people can get?

But Rod R, not only are old people getting sick, but children! And if we live twice as long, doesn't that mean we are healthy? If we are so healthy, then why do we get cancer?

The answer is much more simple : your statistics are flawed.
Think about it : if a kid of india, congo, or bengladesh gets leukemia, will he get diagnosed ? Especially when his parents can't afford a doctor with 120$ per year ? Nope. His parents will see him get sick and get worse, and it will probably be concluded that he died of fever. Another thing : cancer occurs more frequently in old people. That is normal, if you just think about normal body decay with ageing. In poor countries, people tend to die more frequently of infections, that is younger. If you die of malaria, you sure can't die of cancer.
Only us in the western world get our cancers diagnosed and cured (or cure is at least attempted). For the poor (that is, the vast majority of people), it does not happen. So a lot of third world countries will report an artificially low rate of cancer. That by no means mean that they in fact have a lower rate.
Do people from third world countries eat less processed food and use less "chemicals"? Sure. Are they healthier than people from rich countries ? Not so sure...

I dont think we have more cancer. I believe the reason americans seem to have more cancer is that we get diagnosed and have doctors and progressive health care system. Simple fact is alot of countrys peoples dont get to a doctor to get diagnosed. And therefore are not counted in the statistics.

Check your facts. In the US more people get cancer per 1000 only because We live twice as long. Mortality rates per 1000 are higher just about everywhere on earth. you want scary rates check Chernobyl or Chinese precincts. worse yet the cape in Africa.

I agree, it is diet and stress. No other country has the amount of junk food we have, and most other country's do not require an 40-60 hour work week.
