My mother in law got stuck coming up a snowy hill and I went to get her out with my truck. It has automatic hub locks (meaning I just turn the switch inside). I got her out after flooring the gas and dragging her up the hill. When I got back to her place I went to shift the truck from 4x4 to 2x4 and it wouldn't come out of 4x4 Low. What should I do. I'm gonna let it sit and try to switch it again later but any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance everyone.

Are you putting your shifter lever in "nuetral" to disengage 4X4 Low ?
In any of the Ford trucks, you can't engage or disengage the low range from any shift position other than neutral.
If it still doesn't disengage, try putting it in reverse & back uo about 6 feet.

Make sure the brake lights work, because the brakes have to be pressed to disengage out of low with the transmision in neutral.
Could be the motor is stuck, relay bad, or the wires underneath got disconnected. Other than that I would say its the GEM module

You must be stopped, in neutral and foot on the brake to disengage (or engage) 4x4 low .
If all three are not done the system won't switch, to prevent damage to the transfer case.
Hope it helps....

ok if you take a hammer and TAP the shift motor with the key on and have someone in the drivers seat to push the button that may get it back in to 2wd mode.
