I'm an Indian guy 17 years old. I am born in Canada so I do not speak my mother tongue and have no accent or anything.
my parents want me to be more connected to my heritage.
I couldn't give a **** about my heritage.
They want me to go on to college and go into medical college and marry some orphan Indian girl just so they don't have to deal with the brides parents ya dig?
I want to get an ESL certificate and start teaching in china and find a nice Chinese girl and then possibly stay there and never see my parents again.
I lived my life and so far I hate most of the Indian girls I've met and all the Chinese girls I met I felt like I was in love with every single one because they were all so nice to me and stuff. I'm not to fond of American born Chinese.
so should I?
listen to my parents and go to medical college and marry some Indian woman and be miserable
or
find a Chinese girl and maybe get another job if I can marry her
and live a happy life but never ever see my parents again.

To tell you the truth you are going to end up marrying that indian girl. Stop this bull, either leave your house and go today or do what they say.
Well i didint really wanted to go engaged to an indian girl but i did too listenedto my parents, and i am happy i listened to them, i am happy so far.
Good Luck.
We all hope for something that is preety, but settle for something thats best for you.
:- Advise from a Guy in London, who got engaged without even seeing her, you believe that.

Okay...its your life, right? In every culture parents want their children to marry their own kind. Heritage is important to them...but it is not to you, as being happy is your goal. You cant go to college and study for something your heart is not in...as you wont succeed in it. Your parents will only be wasting the money. But, if they are old school, unfortunately they will never understand. You cant change how they feel...and they cant change how you feel. The bottom line here is you must do what will make you happy...and in time, because your parents love you...they will come around and understand.

well like everyone has said already it is your future so the only one who should decide it is yourself. ^^
but, dude, your only 17. your parents only want what they think is best for you, if you go through with this plan of yours i don't think you should cut them from your life completely (unless they'd be happy that way). you may have a change of heart in years to come.
also you may find that 'nice' girls are found in every culture. it shouldn't matter where someone is born. its personality that counts, Ne? i
it the end of the day its your life so go out and live it. be happy, make mistakes, etc.
good luck to you.

I don't have advise because I read the others and I just want to stand by 'natasha' on this. No need to look further for advise. She's right, choose your own future. Eventually, because your parents love you, the should come around. Best Wishes for a wonderful future!

I think that the best thing to do is to sit down with your parents and talk to them about what you want to do.
Approach them in a calm, adult manner and try to get them to understand your side of the story.
Admit that you understand that they only want the best for you, and you do understand where they are coming from, but explain to them that it isn't what you want with your life.
If they don't understand, then i would suggest following your heart.
