Basically it's what you want to cook in it. If you want to put a big chicken or small turkey or brisket in it, you're best with the oval. Anything else can go in a round.

Might be the feet and the lip of the lid. Some of the dutch ovens have a lid where you can place coals on top for some recipes. And some have 3 peg feet on the bottom, so you can place coals under it or whatever heat source you want to use. Large dutch ovens are great for beef ribs. Update, the one with the flanged lid and built-in-legs are called camp dutch ovens and the other one is called a classic dutch oven. definitely go with the cast iron, just make sure you cure it with oil first before use.

Technically nothing.
Go for cast iron.

The advantage of an oval one is that you can put a longer piece of meat to cook, like a leg of lamb
