I'm in Texas but I had a similar bad experience with a dentist. I had heard about sedation dentistry on the radio so searched online for a sedation dentist in my area. Perhaps you can do the same. I found a local dentist who practices sedation dentistry and I can tell you it was the BEST experience of my life. I was a total coward, panic attacks, tears etc. when going to the dentist. After visiting a sedation dentist my fears are all gone. I truly had a pain free experience. My dentist gave me pills to calm me down, I was aware of what was happening, could communicate with the dentist, I was aware of a needle but honestly did not feel it, no nitrous was given but it was available if I needed it. I know some dentists sedate with an IV. I can tell you that it works!! Also, I found the entire staff were very understanding and patient with me, they cater to cowards and understand that some of us are so scared we would rather have teeth rot away and fall out before we'll go to a dentist.
Sedation dentistry is the way to go believe me. I did check online for you but as I'm not familiar with your area I don't know which of the dentists would be close to you. I did find a LOT of sedation dentists in and around Stroudsburg though. Just type in "sedation dentistry Stroudsburg" and check what comes up. Good luck

some advertise sedation. But most likely ALL dentists will do sedation treatment IF you let them know ahead of time that you are very scared of dental treatment. Call any local dentist and ask about sedation treatment for nervous patients.

Any dentist should have an anesthesiologist they can bring in to "knock you out." However, there are alternatives, as anesthesiologists are expensive. Talk to your dentist.

Just don't try the one we had in Brooklyn - hubbie calls him Dr Mengele. Not enough Novocaine and every time you winced he said "does that hurt?" and you nodded yes and said Aaaaaaarrrgh ad then he prodded again only longer that time - aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaarrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrghh.
