keep talking to him, focus most of you attention to him, make him feel liked and maybe then he'll start liking you. make jokes and just be friendly to him.

Just drop this idea of doing this sweetest thing.
Just be pleasant & show an interest in what he says & does.
If & when it comes to going out you can look for something sweet to do.
