I did. I live with my boyfriend. We have been together for 2 1/2 years, and have lived together for 7 months. When he met me he new the first thing i wanted to do when i moved out was get a dog. Well, when we first moved out we couldn't afford it. But now we can. I have been fighting with him about this for about 1 month. He loves dogs, but the reason he didn't want a dog was because of the costs. I figures it would cost us about $700 for all the initial care of a dog. This includes adoption fee, fees for our apartment, vet care, toys, collar & leash, food bowls, food ect. He heard this number and freaked out about it. The problem I had was that he has made all the financial decisions. He had already bought a $700 tv, $500 surround sound, $1500 lap top, $300 xbox 360, and he just bought a $250 computer desk about 2 weeks ago. And I have not bought anything that I wanted yet. His argument was that all of these have been bought on credit, and he didn't want to spend all that cash on a dog. WELL, I kept exlpaining to him how i felt, and the he knew i wanted a dog, and that it is very unfair for him to get everything he wanted, and i was not allowed to get the ONE thing i want. So after about 1 month of arguing, and discussing it, he FINALLY agreed to let me get a dog. It will set us back a little, but we both feel it is worth it. I want the dog, i have the time and energy for a dog, and he understands that it is worth it.

I don't know your situation, or why your husband doesn't want a dog. Does he not want to take care of it? Or contribute to the responsibilities. Explain to him WHY you want a dog, and exlpain to him that You will be the care taker of the dog. Good Luck, i hope you can persuade him. Dogs bring so much joy to life.

It's common with everyone. Your husband might think that the two of you cannot handle the care of a dog; he might have had a bad expirence with a dog in the past; he might just be a cat person--you never really know unless you talk to him.
If you are really wanting this dog, you should sit down with your husband and have a nice chat about it. Tell him why you want this dog, why you think you have the responciblity to take care of it, and give him any other reasons you can manage to think of.

THIS IS A QUICK FIX...give him the puppy you want as a gift. Put a bow on the pup and have a cute basket and suprise him. He CAN NOT get rid of a gift that you get him. Understand? Once he see's the little cutie how can he turn it away?

I have done the same before with a kitten years ago. It really works, and now we joke about it b/c he says that there is no limit to get what I want.

You may have to decide what you want more. A dog or a husband. In order to understand you situation, we need to know why your hubby doesn't want a pooch. Do you know yourself?

Maybe he doesn't think he can handle the responsibility of a dog. Is he a cat person instead?
