Nazi Germany built the first two production/mass produced jet aircraft. The Russians and Americans used captured German fighters to develop their own jets near the end of WWII. All three countries had been experimenting with rocket planes and rocket propulsion since the mid 1930's.

first operational jet was me 262. second operational was Gloster Meteor,then Shooting star. russians develop jet overhaul of some jak fighters as soon as they got german engines.

The Germans during WWII.Hitler made them into small bombers which slowed them down enough so that our propeller type fighters could keep up with them,and shoot them down.Thank God for that stupid mistake by Hitler!
