Instead of being "polite", you might want to try being honest.
If you don't like a guy, say so. Don't try to dress is up as anything else, you can't and it just makes things worse for everyone.
As long as the girl is dishonest, most guys might still hope for more.

Perhaps 95% of the guys may still think you might be interested in him. Why?
It's a natural human instinct to be attracted towards someone perceived as a challenge. This instinct is the same for men AND women, however, men react much different than women. Us guys tend to go after a challenge for physical satisfaction (sex), while women go after a challenge to fulfill an emotional need. Details of this should be for another question.
My advice to you in getting a guy into the 5% that would not be interested is hope he finds a diversion from you. Set him up with a friend. Grow a beard. Do something that would make him more interested in someone else over you.
