I like stuff that is fun and fruity myself. I can deal with a wine cooler (but they are too sweet for more than 1 or 2), but at a bar I would more likely order a cocktail, particularly when I first started drinking. In fact, my first drink ever was a vodka collins and it was delicious - lots of sour mix so it was kind of citrusy.
Vodka and cranberry juice can be delicious but at a bar they often put too much vodka in for my tast - but if tell them to add pineapple juice too, it's delicious (some add coconutty malibu rum to cranberry and pineapple for a tropical flavor).
You can hardly miss with a frozen fruity margharita (particularly if they put sugar on the rim of the glass) but they can be expensive - so can Amaretto di Sarona on the rocks, but that is really delicious on a cold night, with a splash of water.
In fact it was the expensive side of it that eventually had me learn to like white zinfandel wine - a lot cheaper if you are going out on a regular basis.
Flavored vodkas are a lot like flavored spring water - it smells more like the flavor than it tastes - and I don't think that straight alcohol is the way to start drinking.
Peace!

It seems like the that would be the same as having regular vodka with cranberry juice.. Try mixing 1/2 cup of Absolut, 1/8 Grenadine and 1/3 orange Juice, 1/3 cranberry

It tasted horrible because you've never had alcohol before, beginner drinkers can't get past the horrable taste of alcohol because there are two tastes of alcohol when you get over the horrable taste there is a smoother more pleasant taste. Cranberry and vodka is a good drink however knowing ahead of time that this would be your first drink ever I would have chosen either a wine cooler or a white wine spritzer

Alot of Vodka is nasty. Only the pricy Vodka is worth drinking. If you mix kettle one vodka with cranberry or oj, its great. You could also try vox or grey goose. Though I believe for a first time drinker, you should try something fruity. Perhaps a mai tai or a rum runner. Also, make them weak at first and work up as you get use to the taste of liquor.

Well, if it was cranberry FLAVORED vodka, I see why you found it awful... Vodka with cranberry juice, in the other hand, is sweet and tasty!
I guess you shoul be thankful that guy bought a "fruity" drink to a "first female drinker" because of the sweet flavor, also sweet drinks don`t hit as hard... if combined with fruit juice.
Be thankful he didn't got you straight into tequila or jagermaeister shots!!!

I don't ever drink liquor, but on the occasion that I do, I actually like cranberry and vodka. If you are a beginning drinker, everything is probably going to taste like crap. You will have to choke it down the first few times before you acquire a taste.
But if you are not particularly fond of cranberry juice normally you certainly won't like it with liquor.
You can experiement with different juices, but just be careful. The sweeter they get the more likely you will get sick because of all the sugars. And also, keep it to one liquor and one type of juice. The simpler the better -- if you don't want to make yourself sick that is.

Beware of guys bearing drinks. Yeah, alcohol in itself taste bad. Cranberry juice kind of helps to mask it, but I haven't found a juice thats thoroughly gets rid of the alcohol flavour. I'm a light weight so I 'm in the same boat as you. I now get the girliest drink - White zinfedel. Its a sweet wine and I think its low in alcohol. THis is a guy who got sick off a third of a corona. Just nurse the drink all they and people won't bother you so much. Either that or order a shirley temple. Try to get them to put in some orange juice in it too. About 50-50 oJ and 7up with a dash of grenadine. Makes a nice color and everyone thinks it's a tropical drink.

All hard liquor is nasty, it's like drinking paint thinner. You had cranberry paint thinner. Beware of guys giving you alcohol. Really.
Everything bad for you that can be an addiction comes in thousands of colors and flavors (cigarettes, candy, alcohol, coffee). If you do drink, you should drink an ounce of alcohol cut with 12 oz of fruit juice or soda. That makes it less nasty and the extra fluid is good to help your body process the toxicity.
Go to a party or function where people are drinking and don't drink. Watch and evaluate how stupid they get. Vow not to become stupid like that.

Liquor is an acquired taste. He probably chose something fruity thinking you would like it. A good drink for a first time female would be a fuzzy navel or something with schnapps. Schnapps has many different flavors and a low alcohol content compared to liquors like vodka

No. That seems so generic. Mojito would be nice it has rum and crushed mint. Fuzzy Navel has peach Schnaps and orange juice. Maybe a Midori Sour which is a melon liquer and sweet and sour. It would also depend if I knew you. I would pick something that was more tailored to you. If this was in a bar the cranberry juice wasn't probably that good anyway.
