As a lifelong Republican and atheist I know that there are a few of us. However, most mainstream atheists are usually Democrats. Most atheists in the USA are secular humanist who have pretty much strayed from 19th century humanism. If you go to my web site listed below you will see a biography about Col. Robert Green Ingersoll. He was the most famous atheist in the United States in the 19th Century. His lectures are so well written they practically sing to your heart and mind. He was a famous Republican and spoke in support of many Republican causes. He is also pro-woman, pro-family and pro-capitalism.
As far as atheists go in this world you will find they are a very mixed bag. Everyone one from fine Greek philosophers to Stalin are in the atheist camp. This pretty much reflect any other large group. Just look at Christians you have everyone from Hitler to Mother Theresa. Bottom line is you have to judge each person individually. Cheers.

First of all I am an Atheist or at the very least an Agnostic, and I am a conservative as well on most subjects. Unfortunately the very word conservative has been so twisted by religious right wing fanatics that I can't even call myself that without feeling tainted. I am pro-life,a view point I came to after dealing with the issue in my life and having it partly destroy my relationship with my one true love of my life, most people don't realize how it will so deeply affect them until it's too late. But truly I think the religious right can blame our abortion rate on themselves, quit pushing the stigma and heaping the derision on unwed mothers and perhaps they might look at other options. As for gay marriage I see no problem with it,why some people are so threatened by it boggles the mind,we have more pressing problems I think, and if I hear one more sanctity of marriage argument I will scream till I blow a blood vessel,I live in a country with an over 50% divorce rate and some idiot is talking about the sanctity of marriage. Personally the gays can have it,I know I'll never do it again. The rest I pretty much stick to the constitution and conservatives can't even do that. Of course I think what you were referring to was this modern goose stepping, lock step, religious nut version of conservative so I'll just align myself with the Libertarians,in other words the only real conservatives left.

You mean if there are any religious right-atheists?

This is a pretty stupid question. There are more options, politically, than being left-wing liberal and conservative republican. There are moderates on both sides, there are libertarians etc. People vote democratic/republican because they're the two parties that can win.

Except for the issue of religion, it's a safe bet that Atheists can disagree over just about anything.

Right here. About 15% of atheists are supposed to be conservatives. I don't always agree with the Republicans, but it is often because they aren't conservative enough. They spend money like a drunken sailor. Actually it is worse, a drunken sailor is spending his own money.

I am clearly pro-life. A little mixed on gay marriage, but my over all position is that it is up to the states and in general the result of that is that it wouldn't happen right now.

Yes, I am a registered republican and I am an atheist. Of course that doesn't mean I agree with all or even most things that are in my party's platform.

I find that I am a fiscal conservative and a social liberal.

I have met atheist anti-abortioners. It's very rare. The reason to take those positions is religious (for the most part), so why would someone not religious take that position?

There is no rational justification for the Christian homophobic agenda, so without a belief in a bigoted homophobic God, you are unlikely to be a homophobic ***.

Did I just call you an ***? Whoops.

Again I notice that the noun "Atheist" is singular, while the verb is plural. This happens much more frequently than chance would suggest.

I originally chalked it up to a typographical error, but as it happens again and again, that hypothesis no longer is supported by the data.

Is there something about the mindset of people who find it necessary to criticize atheists that leads them to regard a plurality of people as a singular?

Do these people unconsciously see a single, monolithic atheistic mind that opposes them?

I find this fascinating.

I think partisan politics is only destroying our country. I do not draw political lines on my beliefs. I agree with democrats on some issues (pro-choice for example), and I support Republicans on some things (immigration reform).

Hmm . Imagine if you elect an Atheist president. He could do all sorts of underhanded manoeuvres and if he is smart enough he'll get away with it scott free. After all who will make him accountable?
