12-14 year olds should be able to follow any simple recipes, with some supervision if they haven't cooked before. Pizzas are great and easy. Simple pasta sauces with a variety of pasta shapes are quick and offer a range of tastes. Lasagna is also fairly easy if you use jarred sauce rather than freshly made. There are a ton of baked chicken dishes out there that would be easy to put together, though you might want to have a little pep talk about handling raw chicken.
Smoothies are easy and healthy if made without ice cream and sorbets (though they are tasty with those things). My son is 11 and has been making pancakes for 3 years with only minimal supervision. Brownies and cookies are also good beginning recipes for baking.
There are some cookbooks out there aimed at teens that will supply many "teen friendly" food recipes but any beginner book will be appropriate.

Have you tried Whole Wheat Toast and Tea?
Put 2 slices of Whole Wheat bread in a toaster and turn it on.
(This should be done only after being taught that toasters can burn your fingers if you are not extremely careful.)
Carefully heat a cup of water in the micro-wave (Read the instruction book first) and then add a tea bag of the desired tea flavor and let it steep according to manufacturer's suggestions.
By now the toast should be done and it can be made even more delightful by adding peanut butter or jam to taste.
Be sure to clean up the mess after wards.
