This would be a great fight. Prime-to-prime, and in the junior featherweight class. In Barrera's early days and for most of his prime, he chose to slug it out. He wasn't this boring boxer we now know. Although Barrera was good with his style, Gomez was even better. Gomez has a better KO ratio and power, while Barrera has better stamina and defense.
In choosing the winner, I think both warriors will put on a great show ala Barrera and Morales, only, Gomez hits harder and is more precise. Barrera will certainly have his moments in the fight. It will be close. Both fighters will have thrilling exchanges with Gomez taking most of them. I won't be surprised if both men hit the canvass. I expect Gomez to close the show in the championship rounds. Maybe in the thirteenth, while Barrera is still on his feet. By the time the ref stops it, the cards may read something like: 117-111,Gomez; 115-114, Barrera; and 116-112,Gomez.

I am Mexican, so I get caught up in the Mexico vs. Puerto Rico rivalry but Gomez was something else. I think his power would be too much for Barrera. What would be an even better fight though was Gomez and Pacquio!

W Gomez is one of the best fighters ever!!!!! The only type of boxer who can beat him is a boxer/puncher guy who is adept at both(like Salvador Sanchez). Gomez can lose to a guy who can frustrate him early with boxing and then has the power to knock out a tired Gomez late(like Sanchez) I think Barrera would try to slug it out with W Gomez in a macho/nationalistic fight (Mexico vs Puerto Rico). I believe Gomez has way more power and would knock Barrera out in the 5th round in a VERY BRUTAL, exciting fight.
