There are MANY good dogs at humane societies that really need homes. Check there.
Or if you have to "buy" a dog, make sure it is from a reputable breeder, not a pet shop or puppy mill.

Try an animal shelter! Alot of wonderful, loving dogs have been put to sleep because noone wanted to adopt, they just wanted to get a purebred. Shelter dogs often take longer to get used to you, but they will make great companions.
But if you would like to buy a pup from a breeder, check out the place first. Are the parents healthy and meet breed standards? Are the areas around clean? Do the dogs have food, water and space to run around? Ask someone who have gotten a pup from the breeder about the pup. Were they satisfied?
Peace out and rock on

If you want a pedigree dog go to a breeder. See next day pets or AKC.org breeders classifieds in your area. If you dont want peditgeed dogs go to breed resue on next day pets, or AKC.org or the ASCA, the humaine society or your local pound. But please stay away from pet stores. They sell sub standard dogs at high prices and many of them are sick or get sick

Shelters, breed rescues, and reputable breeders are all good sources.
Never buy from a pet store, you'll be supporting the cruel puppy mills.

Go to the AKC website and decide what breed you want. Than contact the Breed club for that breed and they will send you to some of the best breeders in your area in that breed.
