If you dial *67 before you enter the number your calling, then theres no way the person can find out what number just called them, even with caller ID, so if you do that then no, you can't get in trouble.

Using *67 does not stop the person receiving the calls from tracing them. And after 4 calls it is considered harassment. The child may not get in trouble, but the parents definetly will and then your friend will probably have serious trouble with their parents. After tracing 4 phone calls the person receiving them, calls the police, files a report, and then law enforcement handles it from there. So while your friend might think s/he is getting away with it, they could actually already have their prank calls being monitored by the police. The phone company wont send the person receiving the calls the number theyre coming from, they send it directly to the police. Tell your friend to find a new hobby before theyre parents end up in jail.

Prank calling is also called "harassing phone calls" and is a criminal offence. Most people would just hang up and forget about it but others (especially if they get a lot of them) could call the police and an investigation could be started. Police officers don't have much of a sense of humour about these things, especially if they've had to spend a lot of time on them. Telling them "it was just a prank" may not cut it.

No, I dont think they will get in trouble. Just make sure they know everything is monitored nowdays. Not really recorded. but if the person they called had a problem it would be easily traced.

If they're stupid enough to have unblocked calling or if it's excessive and the person has time to inform the phone co. and get the calls traced, yes they will get in trouble....up to 20 years to life in state prison.

They can. I had a kid call me on probably a wrong #. But the li'l jerk hung up on me when I politely asked him what number he was calling (because we get many calls from folks who don't know to dial a 1 before the long distance area code.) Caller ID, dude. I called him back to ask why he called me. His mom answered.

They will with Caller ID !!

I used to prank a little bit. It was fun.

Once when I was little, the Easter Bunny called me! And it was a girl.

I was small enough to believe. I told my mother and she was pissed. I could not understand why Mommy was mad at the Easter Bunny!

Most likely not, but you really shouldn't prank call anyways. It's childish and annoying. Tell your friends to grow up.
