The Church of Scientology is a vicious and dangerous cult that masquerades as a religion. Its purpose is to make money. It practices a variety of mind-control techniques on people lured into its midst to gain control over their money and their lives. Its aim is to take from them every penny that they have and can ever borrow and to also enslave them to further its wicked ends.
It was started in the 1950s by a science fiction writer named L. Ron Hubbard in fulfilment to his declared aim to start a religion to make money. It is an offshoot to a method of psychotherapy he concocted from various sources which he named "Dianetics". Dianetics is a form of regression therapy. It was then further expanded to appear more like a religion in order to enjoy tax benefits. He called it "Scientology".

Scientology, teachings and related techniques developed by American science fiction author L. Ron Hubbard. It began in 1952 as a self-help philosophy, an outgrowth of his earlier self-help system, Dianetics, and later described itself as a new religion. It claims to offer "an exact methodology" to help humans achieve awareness of their spiritual existence across many lifetimes and, simultaneously, to become more effective in the physical world.
Scientology is also used to refer to a controversial Church of Scientology, the largest organization promoting the practice of Scientology.

Scientology is a body of teachings and related techniques developed by American science fiction author L. Ron Hubbard. It began in 1952 as a self-help philosophy and later described itself as a new religion. A stated goal of Scientology is to rehabilitate the thetan (roughly equivalent to the soul) to regain its native state of "total freedom." Church spokesmen and practitioners claim that Hubbard's teachings have saved them from a plethora of problems and enabled them to better realize their highest potential in business and in their personal lives. However, outside observers have alleged that the Church is an unscrupulous commercial enterprise that harasses its critics and brutally exploits its members.

A hack science fiction writer named L. Ron Hubbard observed that the best way to make money in America is to start a religion. So that's what he did. And every religion needs a narrative, so he made one up and it's only slightly more farfetched than most religious narratives.

100 words or less? Man.... ok, I'll try.
A greedy, vicious, profiteering cult which denies the reality of mental disorders, prevents members from seeking psychiatric care, costs 100's of thousands of dollars to members who wish to "advance", & ruins lives through deception, lies and sabotage. The central "teaching" is that we're all eternal beings, but because of alien Lord Xenu and his evil deeds, we are encumbered with "Body Thetans" which cause physical and mental ill-effects and also confuse us with false mental implants. To rid ourself of these things, we must pay Scientology $1000's for their "healing technique".
