I dint know how it works with his mother being Cypriot but if his father was or even his grandfather then yes.I live in Turkey and have met a number of British born northern Cypriots in north Cyprus who had to do service before they could visit there one was only going to get his inheritance sorted.Usually they paid a sum of cash and only did one month which was more like an holiday. The government have a policy that once Turkish Cypriot always so even if you have never been there or hold a British passport.I suppose when they first came to power all passport holders held British passports so they couldn't exempt them?

If he was born in this country and is still living in this country then no because he is a British citizen. If however he was born in this country but is living in Cyprus then yes because he would have dual-nationality!

Depends if he has a dual nationality passport.
If he only has a British passport he won't have to. Don't know if conscription still goes on in Cyprus

if you have dual nationality ,then yes,but only if he is living in cyprus at the time it is due.
With dual nationality, one is treated as a full citizen whilst one is living at the respective country. If for example u have commitd a capital crime in say cyprus and were due the death penalty[for arguments sake, cyprus have death penalty],then the uk could not interfere and must except and treat the person as a citizen of cyprus. And vise-versa

He should, I'll bet it would make his mother proud while learning him some disipline and self control, not a bad thing in these dark days.
