Either ballet or belly takes training...
If it's just for FUN, look in the yellow pages and find a studio... Have FUN!!!! ; )
Professionally is another story...
Ballet takes much more dedication: discilpine and practice. Ballet dancers train all their lives. You need the right body type, too.
Belly - I'd think anyone could learn this and do it... although there's not many professional opportunities there... Most professional opportunties would go to Arabic/Middle Eastern looking women.

I started dancing at age 4 at a wonderful studio which is no longer in business. What I did was take several different classes in various dances and found the ones I liked and narrowed it down to those. Once I did that, I was told by my dance teacher that I was a natural dancer and that I should study Choreography. I did not go to any fancy dance school to become professional. Training isn't the same for everyone. There are people who are natural dancers where everything comes at ease or you are a trained dancer who studies for years at the topnotch schools. There are may career opportunities when you are younger. Dancers have a "peak" at which time they are considered too old but can teach or choreography only. You can dance on stage, become a prima ballerina, national and international performing tours,on broadway-off broadway, las vegas shows, teach and choreography. You can also become a background dancer in videos, commercials and movies. Studios also look for dancers. Hip Hop is so much fun, and can be easily taught. Its basic steps plus a whole lotta attitude. It can get tricky (actually look) if you want to add a level to it.

Belly or Ballet? No such thing as a "balley" dancer unless I am missing something.

If you're talking about belly dancer, check your local community, local dance studios and local colleges to see if there are classes available. Age is not a factor in becoming a bellydancer, whether you just want to do it for fun or professionally.
If you're talking about ballet, there are plenty of dance studios that offer ballet classes. If you want to be professional, age makes a big difference. You need to start off young to get the proper training.

oh my god. how ignorant can you be. you obviously can't want to be a dancer as much as you believe you do . you cannot have done any research : there is no such thing as 'balley'. there's ballet and there's bellydancing. you are an insult to the world of dance.

First you have to know that it's spelled Ballet. With a T. It's French. You need to find a strict school. I took ballet for years and didn't get hardly anywhere because I didn't get training that challenged me enough. You will also need to become very limber. You do need a lot of lean muscle, and that can come with time. Basically, it's possible for anyone who has a good amount of time and dedication.

Ok, I was in Ballet for 11 years and i know it is hard but you just have to try your best to do it. My advice to you is to try to do pleay's( up and down movement were you hold on to a bar.) You also have to be thin to do some of the stunts, one stunt is were a guy picks you up and you jump over him, It is used in many cases of Ice- Skating too. The website below is the History of Ballet.

Hey Dubs!
Are you talking @ ballet-dancing or belly-dancing??
Ballet- you would need to have started years ago (unless you lied @ your age to get on Answers) - or else adopt the it's-never-too-late-attitude. Oh and grace,strength,suppleness,dexterity,endurance,determination...no belly.
Belly- you can start any time though I would think a little teeny paunch might be required - anything from that to the big wobbler.
