I changed my therostat and temp gauge showed past hot. Ran car w/o thermostat and temp gauge worked ok ran cool but worked, I thought I had a bad thermostat. Hooked it up to a diagnostic thing with thermostat in and the temperture showed ok about 180 , but the temp gauge still showed past hot. Drove it with diagnostic thing in it and the temp was ok, but still the gauge is not working properly. It was working properly with thermostat out though. ANy ideas? I'm stumped.

Unless you are in a desert area, I'd just run it without the thermostat. When the thermostat in my Pinto got stuck, I stuck a screwdriver through it to make a hole and drove it like that for ten years without a problem. Fords rock. They run forever, no matter how you abuse them.
