It depends on the type of VoIP you are using or who the supplier is. If you are with a service provider that gives yuo a VoIP adapter (like a router or hub) you can use any regular phone. I use a V-Tech cordless with my Vonage VoIP.

If you have a VoIP solution that does not provide you with a "box" (hardware) you will typically need a phone with a USB connection. This is what many people call a Skype phone. If you are looking for a good deal on a USB phone try a computer specialty company or TigerDirect.com.

choose your VoIP provider first, then get the phone! Most provider give you a base phone (with build-in router and firewall) and one extension to start you off..if you get the Uniden 1868 from bestbuy, look for 1869V(for Vonage) or 1868P ( for Packet8)...but the cheapest prices you get at tiger-direct...there you also will fine the ADA for free, after rebate....then you don't need any VoIP phone, just your analog phone....
