global warming is what triggers an ice age.

the ice age is what balances out the planet again.

The problem with that question is that we have only been able to see the ozone layer and study global warming for the past 20-30 years or so. Thats why there is a huge debate over if global warming, is humans' faults, or if it is a natural warming effect from the ice age ending 10,000 years ago. But if global warming is happening because of human influence on the environment, then, it would cause another ice age, because, the fresh water from the glaciers would mix into the ocean water and spread out salt, making it easier for waters to get cooler, and mess up ocean currents.

When global warming dumps so much fresh water into the sea between Scotland and Norway that the Gulf Stream stops (if the salt content is too low the water doesn't sink to the sea bed for the return journey to the Gulf of Mexico as it isn't dense enough) we will have a new ice age in Northern Europe. Expect this any time from 20-100 years and I'm not kidding. Saw it on Horizon the other week.

We are at present in an inter-glacial (warm) period. The next Ice Age may be just around the corner (in geologic time) in spite of the current Global Warming we seem to be experiencing. The fact is, nobody knows for sure. Humanity is no doubt having a big effect on climate change, but the natural changes, for better or worse, are probably much more powerful, and will likely override anything we do. But the point is, nobody REALLY knows. Dont start buying your Eskimo clothes just yet though!

At the rate we're going it's not going to get any colder dude, especially cold enough for another ice age. Unless of course we get hit by a meteor or something. The moon is slowly getting farther and farther away from the earth( a rate of 1 inch a year). So eventually the earth's orbit around the sun will get all wobbly and totally reverse the polarity. So one part of earth will be cooked by the sun and the other will freeze. This is if the sun either doesn't burn out first or expands, sucking the earth too close and fries the whole damn thing. Watch the science channel.

Global warming will actually cause the next ice age. Ice at the poles is fresh water and when it melts it will stop the salt water from the gulf of mexico, bringing its heat to our (UK) latitude. This will cause the temperature to drop globally. Dont go and get warm clothing though, this wont happen in our lifetime. I hope.

Who really knows? Even the met office find it difficult to predict the weather accurately from day to day.
There is one theory that if the polar ice cap continues to melt it will reduce the percentage of salt in the gulf stream off the west coast, which we know has been responsible for our temperate climate. Other countries on the same latitude as Scotland, such as Alaska are much colder because they don't have a "gulf stream". It is predicted that if this happens the gulf stream will stop it's conveyor-belt flow and we will in effect have an ice age. When? well I guess that depends on how much damage we all do to the ozone layer.

at the end of the day global warming is not what it sounds like as yes it will warm up the world but also make warm climates colder. im in norway with the forces and ive seen a massive change in just the last 6 years, as i come out here every year. north norway is just ice cold with hardly ne snow. times a changing!

global warming will cause an ice age, the beggining of the process has already begun, warmer jet streams, severe or freak weather is more common than ever before, more earthquakes, tidal waves, the list goes on.
we have systematically destroyed our planet, it has existed for millions of years and its only taken us 100 years to ruin it, we are on fast forward now and all we can do is watch.
