I have a six month old puppy that has had two rounds of vaccinations. My roommates adopted an eight week old puppy from an animal shelter 5 days ago. It has been sick the past two days so they took it to the vet and found out it has parvo. As of now, I don't know many details as to how bad off the puppy is or if they may have to put it to sleep. I know to disinfect everything with bleach water, but I am worried about my 6 mo old pup. Can she still catch the virus despite the vaccinations? What additional precautions should I take to protect her?

If she has had the vaccination it should knock everything out of her system. She could still become ill for a short period of time but her body will fight it off quickly. Continue to look for signs of Parvo in her and take her to the vet if you are concerned. One thing to keep in mind is that even though you cleaned the inside the outside may still be contaminated. Do not let the puppies go potty in the same area. Dig a hole for the puppy with parvo and try to get him to go in the hole or around it. After he is completely treated fill in the hole and pour bleach water over the area once a day for three days. This will kill the virus outside and try to control it.

Not bleach water....straight bleach. I had 2 pups die of parvo a couple years ago and I am happy to say we now have 3 grown dogs and 3 pups who are all healthy(I breed pit bulls). Go outside and pour bleach everywhere that puppy went potty to disinfect your yard. Get your puppy to the vet ASAP and they will give her the last vaccination early. Also, there is a product at Pet Smart called "Parvo Disinfectant" Buy as much as you can and use it liberally everywhere that puppy went.

not normally will they catch it if they have been uptodate on shots, we did what your room mate did only the vet found out that it didnt test positive for the virus even though they thought it did-to tell you the truth the dog was horribly sick, it wasnt that way for a few days, just clean all the stuff the dog was near on and then make sure no harmful cleaners are there, i would take your dog to the vet and keep her there question the vet about this and have your puppy tested also ask if vet wouldnt mind let her stay there a few nights there until the virus is positivly gone from the house, remember the dog can be put down or treated but what happens is the disease (not to be gross) "destroys" the stomach causing it to be in pain and almost impossible to eat,

Parvo virus is a life threatening disease unprotected dogs can get if there is an outbreak. One of the shots your vet gives is against parvo so ask him if your dog got it and if he didn't when it will be given. make sure he when walking doesn't eat other animals poop. But the shot should provide protection and is given every year or so.

She should have recived three sets of vaccines allong with her rabies. I waould call my vet and let them know your concerns. They will proably say to bring her in for a blood test. By the time you see signs of the illness it has progressed much farther than You will like(I an so sorry for you and your roomate). But if it caught in the early stages it is Highly treatable. My best wishes.

i wouldnt worry to much about the inside but if this dog has been outside it can get it dogs get this through the ground and the only thing to do is keep bleaching your yard once a week for three weeks and when it gets warm like towards summer do it one more time
