Many Mexicans have left the Catholic Church. They are choosing the churches who help the people. The last thirty years, Catholics built three new schools in Mexico. However, the real Christians built 196 schools, sixty new churches, and set up programs to feed hungry Mexican poor people. You see, Catholics failed to understand that man can not live by bread alone.

Truth be known Protestants as a group broke away the Catholics ( or more in point - true Christianity ) way back in the sixteenth century. On an individual level speaking in terms of 'who is more devout in THEIR faith' I would say that Catholics are more devout because: they don't point the finger at other denominations and say they are wrong rather they try and lead by example of Christian ways their REASON for being known separately as a group is not to say to the world that they are more Christian than other peoples On a personal or group level it is Gods view only that matters. To break away from members of your group and say you are better than them is not Christian behaviour. It is pointing at the splinter in another persons eye while ignoring the log in your own. God wanted his people to go out amongst the sinners of this world and show them the right way by example.

Some people switch but according to the Center for Applied Research in the Apostolate at Georgetown University, the worldwide population of Catholics is as large as it ever has been and is still growing:
1970 = 653,600,000
1975 = 709,600,000
1980 = 783,700,000
1985 = 852,000,000
1990 = 928,500,000
1995 = 989,400,000
2000 = 1,045,000,000
2004 = 1,114,000,000
And in the U.S.:
1965 = 45,600,000
1975 = 48,700,000
1985 = 52,300,000
1995 = 57,400,000
2000 = 59,900,000
2005 = 64,800,000
With love in Christ.

not sure of the numbers but hopefully they remain firm and hold to the beuaty and truth of the catholic faith and church. within california it seems that alot of mexican americans have embraced protestant/fundamentalist churches. however i don't think the changes of religion will alter the mexican way of living any closer to that of the americans.

Most prejudice Americans have towards Mexicans is based on language and accents.
The Irish, Italians and everyone else went through it, too.
