The same type of first aid used on people can be used on animals.
Bandaging, splinting, treatments for poisoning, even CPR can all be performed on animals.

Do you mean, like, first aid FOR animals, or first aid for an animal bite or scratch?

First aid FOR animals...you gotta get a professional in to help if it's anything major. Like, if you hit a dumb-a ss owl with your car, check for a raptor center in your area. Call the nearest zoo or animal shelter (or your city's animal control #) for info.

As far as for YOU if an animal attacks or whatever...animals are dirty-dirty-dirty. Dirty mouths, dirty claws, they can have rabies or distemper or inject you with venom. Try as best you can to catch the animal or at least get a good description of what it was and how it was acting (especially try to catch snakes or spiders that bite you.) Be sure to tell medical caregivers about where you were, what you were doing, and what happened. They may need to send animal control people out to trap whatever attacked you.

The treatment for animal attack injuries can be very different than other wounds. Give caregivers as much info as possible!

And for hurt animals, keep them warm, wrap them up and immobilize them, and get them treatment ASAP. That's their best chance.

If you hit a stray animal with your car please do not try to pick it up. More people get bitten by animals trying to be helpful after the animal is hit by a car. Your best bet is to call The local ASPCA. If it is your personal pet why would you risk hurting and or infection to the animal by not seeking professional help.
