i just hope that the boxing world and the money men put their hands in their pockets to help gerald macklelan and his family, because he deserves every penny that is raised,it is a sad state of affairs when a boxer-athlete can not be insured when they are fighting in order to put money in the managers pockets, they take all the risks and when things go wrong no one seems to worry at all.I was at a dinner dance in 1980,there was many raffles and money raised for a young boxer who had died in the ring.the place was full of celebrities.near the end a champion said a few words to everyone when he heard how much had been raised for the family of an boxer/athlete who had given the ultimate sacrifice,He was disgusted, and told everyone present and the main raffle prize that he or his wife/partner had won went back up for raffle, would you believe it when re raffled it raised four times the inital raffle raised.so who ever does go to the memorial do infact give give give to a sportsman who lost everything in his prime.as Nigel Benn said it will help him to put some demons asleep for him too,and he himself wants to do what he can for the G MAN.

For the 110% Gerald gave every-time he entered the ring and even the sacrifices made honing his craft at the gym, I hope the guys making Million Dollar Pay Days come out to lend their support. Not just financial but being present so as to attract a large crowd of fans. The "G-Man" was a throwback fighter who never took a backward step. As much as I am sad to see the extent of his disability, I'll always appreciate the great fights he gave to us, the fans.

BTW just curious if roy t recalls the name of the fighter that benefit/dance he attended was for? and/or the name of the "champion" who spoke at the end? I'm glad that some fighters are showing their dissatisfaction with how the old timers and fallen comrades have been treated. Thanks

Gerald was one of my favorite fighters and it was a sad day when he suffered from a traumatic brain injury as a result of his bout with "The Dark Destroyer". I watched an interview with Gerald about two months ago and it is very depressing to see what has become of the boxing prodigy.

His medical bills and the round the clock care is costly and I'm glad that people throw benefits to help him financially. If ever there was a fighter who embodied "toe to toe" action it was Gerald McClellan. Very sad that this great fight had to end tragically.
