Both my husband and I take fluoxetine, the generic for Prozac, and have done so for years, with no problems whatsoever.

So, you're not even switching from the brand Prozac to generic Prozac. You are switching from one medication to a totally different one. Anyone would have a problem with that. A new medicine needs the same amount of time to get into your system and work as the original one you were taking did.

All brands, after their patent expires, are subject to generic versions being made. These products are tested, and must meet the requirements of the original. Valium is a great example--there must be 100 generics of this med.

Yes it works the same. Fluoxetine isn't just the generic name, it's also the name for the chemical. Both Prozac © and Fluoxetine have the same atomic make up. They are both made the same way with the same things.

In general there should be no difference between the two - they both contain the working chemical. There is no difference.
